Important Race Details for the 2020 Kinnitty Castle Knight Run.

Thank you for signing up to take part in the third Kinnitty Castle 10km Knight run on the 7th of February 2020. We are really looking forward to welcoming you to Kinnitty Castle Hotel.

As you can appreciated, your safety is our number one priority on the night, so please take time to read over the safety briefing and also familiarise yourself with the schedule of events for the night ahead.

It’s important that all participants bring their own head torch and wear reflective clothing for example (a High visibility vest) over a running top. It’s also advised to wear trail runners and appropriate clothing for the mountains (i.e. beanie hat and gloves.)

The start and finish line of the Knight run is on the grounds of Kinnitty Castle Hotel. There will be ample parking on site, please arrive EARLY and follow the directions of the parking marshals.

Registration time is from 5:15pm to 7:15pm sharp and will take place in the lobby of the Great Hall. You can collect your race number from the registration team here.

The run will start at 7:30pm. This will be a mass start. If you are not too worried about your time please allow the faster runners to set off first. While this is a fun run, we will be giving out prizes for the 1st male and female to complete the course.

The 10km route will be marked by large LED flashing beams. There will be a mobile flood lighting tower and water station located along the route.

Marshals will be positioned at various stages along the course.
If you see anyone in difficulty please offer assistance and report it to the nearest marshal. Offaly Civil Defence will be located at the Start/Finish Gantry at the Castle and at the mobile lighting tower in the Slieve Blooms.

If you are brining your phone and are lucky enough to get coverage on the mountain you can contact 085 1735204 in case of an Emergency.

Please respect the Slieve Blooms and obey the Leave No Trace Policy.

The first 5km of the run is an uphill climb to the top valley of the Slieve Bloom with the final 5km section all downhill back to the castle.

Please don’t take any unnecessary risks with regard to speed on the downhill section.

Teas and coffees will be provided at the Dungeon Bar at the castle after the run. We also plan to a have the prize ceremony after the race. It would be great if everyone could stick around for a while afterwards to soak up the atmosphere.
